Chess2u is a one-bench studio where chess sets are built by hand from modelling clay — no wheels, no kilns, just patient sculpting.

Every board starts as a fresh block of clay. Squares are pressed in by hand, edges softened with a finger, and the surface left with the quiet imperfections of being made. Each piece is shaped one at a time on the bench and air-cured for days until it sets firm.

The result is heavier than wood, warmer than plastic, and never twice the same. We make a few sets a month. When one finds its player, that design is retired.
